Red Sox to resign Eduardo Nunez

Red Sox deal with Eduardo Nunez still has some procedural elements before being finalized, including a physical.

Nunez who after being traded to the Red Sox at the end of July went on to ignite a sluggish offense by hitting .321/.353/.539 with 8 home runs as well as driving in 27 runs and stealing 6 bases while playing second, short and third.

With this winter's sluggish off-season and with the Red Sox currently in need of a potential infield option while both Marco Hernadez, as well as Dustin Pedroia, recovering from their respective off-season surgeries, and with the Nunez still available, this reunion makes too much sense not to happen.
Nunez who last season played second for the injured Pedroia as well as giving breathers to Devers at third, as well as Xander at shortstop, was a huge boost to the lineup last year, and even though he badly injured his right knee prior to the playoffs and was wrongly rushed back by the Red Sox manager John Farrell and the medical staff, would reinjure the knee in his only at-bat in the playoffs.
Yet after a full winter to recover, and with Pedroia and now Hernadez dealing with slow recoveries, as well as Holt returning after a lost season and possibly battling for a roster spot with  Blake Swihart for the super-utility role, the resigning of  Nunez would bring a player who has much more experience than Swihart around the infield, as well as the ability to potentially play the outfield which would allow for the Red Sox to keep Swihart on the roster since he his out of minor league options, while also  potentially looking to move Holt.
The benefits of adding Nunez are plenty including, that it give Cora a new player to plug into multiple positions and thus allowing him to give other players days off like Xander, Devers, as well as slotting in at DH on occasion. Then when Pedroia returns he can still see time spelling those players, as well as Pedroia and potentially continuing to see at-bats at the DH position.
The other potential benefit of bringing Nunez back is that, with the stalled negotiations with Scott Boras regarding JDM, adding  Nunez back would not only give the Red Sox some leverage to use against the agent in that they could say that Nunez who with last seasons success with the Red Sox, could show Boras, that they don't really need his client, but would be happy to add him.
Personally, I would love to see JDM join the Red Sox as a DH/Leftfielder as it would strengthen as well as add a power element to the lineup that currently it is lacking.  JDM along with Nunez would add multiple elements to an already strong team in their pursuit of a third AL East title.

***** as of writing this article the Red Sox are in agreement on a one year deal with a potential option for 2019 to bring back Nunez, yet it is still pending a physical******

looking back on a year gone past

So lets see whats been up with me .. well as another holiday season draws closer to an end, I am looking back on the year that was. It started out with me loosing a job coincidentally on new years eve day of 2009 and then a month later I began working as free lance videographer which I still do to this very day. In April I resumed my umpiring for a 7th year in a row and also had a wonderful and exciting trip to visit my sister in new york city. I continued umpiring till mid july when I was part of my first theatrical production in over a year. I loved being part of the cast of 42nd St and also while doing that became part of another cast, this one for Barber of Seville. Both shows brought a new widening of my horizons and brought new friends and oppertunities into my life In October I had my 26th birthday and it was another wonderful time.. In November I took myself to see my first concert in over 5 years when Rockapella came to town. I also celebrated the one year anniversary of ...

Why Kevin Youkillis is the perfect blueprint for how Red Sox should handle Rafael Devers

photo credit: Cincinnati Enquier^.com Kevin Youkilis over 8.5 years with the Red Sox provided grit, determination, ^ a power-bat. Yet it was his defensive versatility that let the Red Sox get better. When the Red Sox drafted Kevin Youkilis out of the University of Cincinnati where he put together a .410/.549/.714/1.263 offensive stat line. Yet it was the fact that Youkilis also led the nation with 59 walks compared to just striking out just 21 times, that attracted then-GM Theo Epstein to draft the young third baseman in the 8th round of the 2001 draft. Youkilis would spend three seasons in the minors before reaching the M ajors during the 2004 season, where he would play a minor role that season during the team's championship run, appearing in 72 games that year , hitting .260 with 7 home-^runs driving in 35. Yet between 2007 and 2011 is when Youkilis would truly prove to be one of the best players in the game.  Over that five years, Youkilis would average 1...
Soo as we start the beginning of week #3 I have come to the realization that as much as I want to be like all the other guys who are here umpiring, I need to be able to listen to my body and adjust certain things to make it possible to actually umpire correctly.  My knee is still in one place the swelling has continued to go down but the soreness is still there. Hopefully by Tuesday or Wednesday I can slowly start ramping it up again and won't have lost too much time.
