Umpiring Blog Day 1

So  as I sit here in my Hotel room with the beach right outside my door I am feeling a lot of different emotions.  On my walk today I just felt soo lucky and honored to be where I am, but I am not/and would not have been here without amazing people in my life.
When I first started umpiring 10 years ago I never NEVER would have thought it would have taken me to where I am today.   I started umpiring as a way to make some money during the summer, and slowly but surely  I got more  to really appreciate what it takes to be an umpire.
This is a job where you need to be able to think quickly, anticipate, react and have thick skin. Over the 10 years of umpiring I have gained all of those qualities and many more, and I have really high hopes for myself and I am not without being thankful for all those people who helped me get to where I am.

If I was to start thanking people it would have to start with my family. My family has throughout my entire life has helped, encouraged, supported, believed, in me and my talents and I can't ever begin to say thank you to them for all they have done!
Next would have to be Mark Lindberg.  Mark has been a friend, and fellow umpire and gave me my first job as an umpire and without his encouragement, support, and willing to assign me games and work games with me I would probably not have gotten here.
Mike Jackson of Hanover High, whom I have known since I was 7 has always supported and encouraged me to go after my dream.

my Best friend ( I will leave his name out of this but he knows who he is)  Has always supported, encouraged, believed, helped, and been there through of our 22 years of our friendship.
There are many many more people including A/D's of high schools I have worked, coaches, players, and many many people that I want to say thank you to.
I will do my best to maintain this blog as I continue to work my way through this umpiring training :)
Have a wonderful new years eve, and stay SAFE!

looking back on a year gone past

So lets see whats been up with me .. well as another holiday season draws closer to an end, I am looking back on the year that was. It started out with me loosing a job coincidentally on new years eve day of 2009 and then a month later I began working as free lance videographer which I still do to this very day. In April I resumed my umpiring for a 7th year in a row and also had a wonderful and exciting trip to visit my sister in new york city. I continued umpiring till mid july when I was part of my first theatrical production in over a year. I loved being part of the cast of 42nd St and also while doing that became part of another cast, this one for Barber of Seville. Both shows brought a new widening of my horizons and brought new friends and oppertunities into my life In October I had my 26th birthday and it was another wonderful time.. In November I took myself to see my first concert in over 5 years when Rockapella came to town. I also celebrated the one year anniversary of ...

Why Kevin Youkillis is the perfect blueprint for how Red Sox should handle Rafael Devers

photo credit: Cincinnati Enquier^.com Kevin Youkilis over 8.5 years with the Red Sox provided grit, determination, ^ a power-bat. Yet it was his defensive versatility that let the Red Sox get better. When the Red Sox drafted Kevin Youkilis out of the University of Cincinnati where he put together a .410/.549/.714/1.263 offensive stat line. Yet it was the fact that Youkilis also led the nation with 59 walks compared to just striking out just 21 times, that attracted then-GM Theo Epstein to draft the young third baseman in the 8th round of the 2001 draft. Youkilis would spend three seasons in the minors before reaching the M ajors during the 2004 season, where he would play a minor role that season during the team's championship run, appearing in 72 games that year , hitting .260 with 7 home-^runs driving in 35. Yet between 2007 and 2011 is when Youkilis would truly prove to be one of the best players in the game.  Over that five years, Youkilis would average 1...
Soo as we start the beginning of week #3 I have come to the realization that as much as I want to be like all the other guys who are here umpiring, I need to be able to listen to my body and adjust certain things to make it possible to actually umpire correctly.  My knee is still in one place the swelling has continued to go down but the soreness is still there. Hopefully by Tuesday or Wednesday I can slowly start ramping it up again and won't have lost too much time.
