Update

Well lets see what has happened since I last updated in march. I finally got to go to NYC and visit my sister and it was a wonderful trip, a trip of a lifetime to be completely honest. I got to see 2 broadway shows, went backstage after one of them. Got to see my cousins and visit with my sister which is something that I rarely get to do. I mean as we were growing up my sister and I were never really that close, and it wasn't till I think we both graduated high school and moved out and into new directions in our lives that our friendship took a new direction as well . I mean we have always been close with one another (goes with being twins) but yet, I really think as we have grown and matured, our friendship as gotten much stronger which is a very wonderful thing for me, because she is the best big (lil since she is only 4'11") sister in the world. During my visit we had so many times where we would just sit and talk with one another, just talk about our lives, the direction our lives were taking each other in, what we thought about what we wanted to do and who we hopefully would become.
I am soo glad I got to see her and visit her and see her world, being that I am in the country and she is living in the big bad city. I hope this visit was just the first of what could be a few to come in the near future.
Other than the visit, I have been extremely busy with my umpiring and have done a slew of games in the month and a half since the season began. It started out a bit rocky but then as the season continued I was able to shake off the rust and the nerves and actually thought i did really well this year. I mean I didn't pass my field test but I am really not that concerned because I am happy at where I am at.
I enjoy doing games at the jv level because to me at that level you still have players, coaches that take great pride in the love of the game and playing the game the right way. Sure you have the occasional jerk of a coach or a hot headed player but you get that wherever you go. I really enjoyed a lot from all of the partners that I was assigned to work with have helped me develop myself into a much more confident umpire, and I am very thankful for that. I also have to say that I appreciate having a friend of mine who is a a coach at one of the schools who has helped me as well, by after the game giving me feedback as to how I did and what i could do to get better.
SO besides umpiring I have been continuing to do some free lance videography work and have filmed a couple of musical events and have a couple more in the upcoming weeks.
Whatelse.. oh yeah I have been cast as a member of the ensamble for the local production of 42nd St which will be performed in July. I am very excited for this oppertunity to get back on stage since I have missed performing and being around theatre.
So, I met with a surgeon about maybe a month ago to discuss possible options to help decrease the pain in my right ankle which is the weaker of my two though both are weak to do my having club feet. So the first dr suggested surgery as a possible option since it would possible alieviate the pain and possibly give me some more flexability in my ankle. I met with the second surgeon who would actually have been performing the procedure and he wasn't as convinced that the surgery would have helped, infact he said that it would have weakened my already weakened ankle beyond what is already.
So we have taken the wait and see approach using my current orthodics which I just got after not having a new pair in over 6 years ( that could certainly make a big difference and they already have) if by chance they don't work then the other choice is going back to wearing a custom made brace, similar to the ones that i wore when I was growing up. Now I have no problems with the brace idea since when i was growing up it allowed me to live my active lifestyle, playing both baseball and basketball at high levels ( well not so high, but allowing me to play) it is just that I never really enjoyed wearing them. Sure I had them made with the colors of red and blue ( since i am a huge red sox fan) but yet i always felt weird wearing them. I mean now of course I joke about them since in the movie Forrest Gump he wears a similar brace to what I wore, (though he's were metal mine were a very flexible plastic) I would rather not have to relieve that experience again. Sure technology has changed and made for better medical equipment but its something that just brought back not so fond memories.
SO the current plan is to continue to do what I am doing meaning that when I do work out I am careful not to overdo it and do "non" weight bearing activities such as a recumbint bike and free weights, swimming, and other things to build strength without weakening my body.
Other than that I have only a few more regular season games left to do then a break till end of june early july when summer baseball begins. Plus I will be continuing to do my videography work, and be a member of the theatre.
So the future looks bright, and I will continue to make strides to keep it that way!

looking back on a year gone past

So lets see whats been up with me .. well as another holiday season draws closer to an end, I am looking back on the year that was. It started out with me loosing a job coincidentally on new years eve day of 2009 and then a month later I began working as free lance videographer which I still do to this very day. In April I resumed my umpiring for a 7th year in a row and also had a wonderful and exciting trip to visit my sister in new york city. I continued umpiring till mid july when I was part of my first theatrical production in over a year. I loved being part of the cast of 42nd St and also while doing that became part of another cast, this one for Barber of Seville. Both shows brought a new widening of my horizons and brought new friends and oppertunities into my life In October I had my 26th birthday and it was another wonderful time.. In November I took myself to see my first concert in over 5 years when Rockapella came to town. I also celebrated the one year anniversary of ...

Why Kevin Youkillis is the perfect blueprint for how Red Sox should handle Rafael Devers

photo credit: Cincinnati Enquier^.com Kevin Youkilis over 8.5 years with the Red Sox provided grit, determination, ^ a power-bat. Yet it was his defensive versatility that let the Red Sox get better. When the Red Sox drafted Kevin Youkilis out of the University of Cincinnati where he put together a .410/.549/.714/1.263 offensive stat line. Yet it was the fact that Youkilis also led the nation with 59 walks compared to just striking out just 21 times, that attracted then-GM Theo Epstein to draft the young third baseman in the 8th round of the 2001 draft. Youkilis would spend three seasons in the minors before reaching the M ajors during the 2004 season, where he would play a minor role that season during the team's championship run, appearing in 72 games that year , hitting .260 with 7 home-^runs driving in 35. Yet between 2007 and 2011 is when Youkilis would truly prove to be one of the best players in the game.  Over that five years, Youkilis would average 1...
Soo as we start the beginning of week #3 I have come to the realization that as much as I want to be like all the other guys who are here umpiring, I need to be able to listen to my body and adjust certain things to make it possible to actually umpire correctly.  My knee is still in one place the swelling has continued to go down but the soreness is still there. Hopefully by Tuesday or Wednesday I can slowly start ramping it up again and won't have lost too much time.
